Annual weed that can invade most lawns, particularly cool season varieties that are not dense and mowed regularly. Spreads primarily by seed, but in parts of Southern California can remain alive year round, and will spread vegetatively.

Maintaining a dense, healthy, well groomed turf along with hand weeding patches that occasionally appear will, in most cases, control crabgrass in most cool season lawns.
